Ernie harwell story to music

Longtime umpire Joe West paid tribute to legendary broadcaster Ernie Harwell in the most heartfelt way he knows how: The “Cowboy” wrote Ernie a song.

West, known as Cowboy Joe for his love of country music and the fact that he’s released several albums, co-wrote “A Tribute to Ernie Harwell” with Bill Slayback and Fred Rodgers and sang the song, which tracks the life and times of Harwell, who passed away Tuesday at the age of 92, while tracing his own upbringing in North Carolina with parents who fell in love with baseball through Harwell’s broadcasts.

“When the Dodgers were in Brooklyn and the little boys dreamed,” West sings, “Ernie Harwell told their story long before the TV screens. Mom and Dad watched the radio as if they could see a ballpark in their minds where the grass was always green.”

Ernie Harwell died Tuesday night, ending his battle with cancer at the age of 92, but his voice and spirit will live on forever in the ears

What goes up, Must Come Down!

After blasting the Canadians and Lightning on home ice, the Rangers can’t muster one goal on the brief road trip in two straight games.

What a turn of events, after leaving the Garden on the highest note of the season with 14 goals for in two games the Rangers couldn’t get one by the goal crease again for two straight games.

Last night in Montreal the Canadians Mike Cammalleri had a huge four point night with two goals and two assists as the Canadians put up four goals in period two on their way to a 6-0 win.

Ex Ranger Scotty Gomez would get the party going when he put home a wrist shot at 9:05 of the first. Period one would end with the Canadians up 1-0 while being out shot by the Rangers 13-10.

The Canadians would out shoot the Rangers in the second 11-7 but more important they put home four of those shots on goal. After the third goal scored on the Rangers in the second Lundqvist would be relived by rookie goalie Matt

Montreal Canadiens Surprise The Washington Capitals

As Alex Ovechkin found a way to shoot the puck right past Canadiens goalie Jaroslav Halak at the beginning of the third period, the crowd roared in amazement and there seemed to be more hope in the loyal Caps fans’ eyes that Washington would take down Montreal.

Unfortunately for Washington, one of the officials discovered that Ovechkin’s linemate Mike Knuble was inside the goal crease despite the replay suggesting differently. There was no goal and the Washington Capitals fell bitterly to the Montreal Canadiens with a 2-1 loss, ending their season in the play-offs.

It was surprising to see Montreal pull this off after experiencing a three-games-to-one deficit against highly skilled Capitals, who were standing with the NHL’s best record of regular season.

The top three NHL teams within the Eastern Conference have no been eliminated and Montreal will move on to their second round on Friday against the defending Stanley Cup Champions,

The Rain Maker Sports: Sports Bytes – May 13, 2010

The Washington Redskins invited former Philadelphia Eagles RB Brian Westbrook to camp this week for a visit. If Daniel Snyder signs any more past-their-prime veterans he’ll be able to approach AARP about naming-rights sponsorship to the team’s D.C. stadium . . .

What’s the reward for the winner of the Boston Bruins-Philadelphia Flyers series? A showdown against the sizzling Montreal Canadiens. First, the Habs shocked the NHL by eliminating the top-seeded Washington Capitals. Last night, they sent Penguins fans home in disbelief, eliminating the defending Stanley Cup champions in seven games . . .

I don’t understand how Manny Pacquiao can serve as a congressman while continuing to box. Is he going to “Tweet” his legislative votes from training camp? Honestly, I think he is doing a disservice to his constituents by continuing to box. How can he stay abreast of the nation’s issues while preparing for major bouts that will absorb all of his

READ THIS PLEASE! Kay, so. I only did my favorite players… well, I love everyone on the team, but I was just too tired to do everyone, and I am just too impaitent. Sorry if I didn’t do one of your favorites =( The video does not goin order Jordan Staal – Bedrock – Young Money I did this, because Jordan is one of the cutest players on the team, and I just think that song suits him nicely. Matt Cooke – Headstong – Trapt I chose this song for Matt because he is aways getting into fights, and hes a real tough and confident guy. Evgeni Malkin – Riot – Three Days Grace Kay Geno is a stand up guy. He gets the team going and he wont take sh!t from anybody. This song fits. Sidney Crosby – Perfect – Hedley Some of you may not like this one. But I think it fits Sid PERFECTly. He is pressured soo much to be perfect all the time, and he is judged so harshly on his every move. Sid gives 110% every practice and game. To me, he is perfect. =) Maxime Talbot – Womanizer – Britney Spears Dont. Even. Ask. If your a true Pens fan, you’ll get this. If not, go watch some Max videos on youtube. (notice the superstar I added on his begining ;) Kristopher Letang – Remeber The Name – Fort Minor Kaayso I love Tanger. Sadly, if your not a Pens fan, you wouldn’t know who he was. I always get a “Letang who?” REMEMBER HIS NAME! =) Marc Andre Fleury – Smile – Uncle Cracker Obvious. Flower is always smiling and showing those perfect teeth. This just describes his personality . =D Sergei Gonchar – We

This Week in Betting, a to Z

A – All-Star. It’s the NHL All-Star Game in Dallas this week. No one watches hockey when it is full of hits, fights and all the fun body contact, so why in the world would people watch it when the players aren’t touching each other?

B – Bush, Reggie. The 88-yard run was as impressive as you expect from this super freak. He sure made it clear that he isn’t yet a mature man, though, didn’t he? Do you think that that front flip into the end zone pissed the Chicago defense off, or was it just a coincidence that those were the last points New Orleans scored?

C – Crosby, Sidney. I know I dwell on this guy, but the Pittsburgh forward will get more attention than anyone else at the NHL All-Star Game. Remember, he’s only 19 years old, so he’s only going to get better than he is, and he’s amazing already. If you haven’t seen him play, do yourself a favor and catch a Penguins game.

Red Wings Steamroller Rolls On

The Red Wings Steamroller Rolls On

6/2/2009

Author:  Matt Gerwitz

U. S. Sports Media, Inc

On the eve of game three of the Stanley Cup Finals, it seems inevitable that the Detroit Red Wings will soon hoist hockey’s most beloved trophy for the fifth time in twelve years. This team, like their championship predecessors, seems like a steamroller on ice, a “beat-down” machine that cannot be stopped. Oh, I had high hopes when the playoffs started, but those hopes began to fade as the opponents fell one by one. First it was Columbus who went down, and without much of a fight mind you; Anaheim followed, almost pulling off the victory by taking the Wings to seven games; then came the Chicago Blackhawks who didn’t play as well as the statistics indicate.

So here we are, Detroit leading the Penguins 2 games to none as the series heads to Pittsburgh. Sigh.

Look, I’m not a Detroit hater by any means. God bless

Past & Present Canadian Olympic Icons

“A Season To Celebrate” is the story of the 1994-1995 Pittsburgh Penguins. Playing without Mario Lemieux and Tom Barrasso, the Pens were not expected to be the same elite team they had been in previous years. But the team finished the lockout-shortened season with the third best record in the league. They were led by the Art Ross trophy winner, Jaromir Jagr and Lady Byng winner and acting team captain, Ron Francis. Ken Wregget led the NHL with 25 wins also setting his own personal career high total. New acquisition Luc Robitaille scored his 400th goal and Joey Mullen registered his 1000th career point during the season. The Pens beat the Washington Capitals in an exciting seven game series. The Pens were down three games to one but rallied to defeat the Caps. They won game five 6-5 in overtime and clinched the series with a 3-0 shutout victory in game seven. Unfortunately, the team lost to the eventual cup champion New Jersey Devils in a quick five game series. No copyright intended. I take absolutely no credit for the content. Enjoy!

Past & Present Canadian Olympic Icons

Mario Lemieux

No stranger to adversity, Lemieux was diagnosed with a deadly form of cancer early in his professional career. Although cancer treatment may have slowed his progress, it never stopped him. Soon after Mario Lemieux not only led the Pittsburgh Penguins to 2 NHL Stanley Cups, but he also led Team Canada to a gold medal victory in the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. As a result, Lemieux was awarded a spot in the Hockey Hall of Fame.

Before retiring for the second time at the age of 40, Mario had one final challenge to overcome. His long time NHL team was facing bankruptcy and needed a buyer to survive. In 1999, Mario Lemieux came to the rescue and purchased the Pittsburgh Penguins making him the chairman of the board and principal owner while still playing on the ice.

Cindy Klassen

Klassen kicked off her competitive career on the women’s Field Lacrosse Team at the 1994 Commonwealth Games. After
